Tamika Tretu has been deeply committed to educating New York City public school students since 2012, when she joined Success Academy Charter Schools. Mrs. Tretu began her career at Success Academy Harlem 2 as a first grade Lead Teacher. In 2014, she became a founding teacher for Success Academy’s newest school, Bronx 4, where she taught first through third grade. Mrs. Tretu also served as Grade Team Lead, acting as a liaison between her peers and leadership, as well as assisting colleagues in advancing their instructional and classroom management skills by providing resources and feedback. During Mrs. Tretu’s time as a teacher at Success Academy, her students achieved phenomenal results. In 2016, she won the network’s Academic Achievement Award, which is given to the teachers whose scholars achieve the highest academic results across the network. In 2017, her third grade scholars performed at the top of the district and New York State, with 100% passing Math and 98% passing English Language Arts on the New York state tests. In the fall of 2017, Mrs. Tretu became an Assistant Principal at Success Academy Bronx 4. In this role, she focused on improving teacher practice through observations, feedback, and leading professional development. Mrs. Tretu earned her B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University in International Politics and her Ed.M. from Touro College’s Graduate School of Education. She currently lives in the Bronx with her husband and son.
